What Is Now Likely to Happen at The Next OPEC+ Meeting?
Enverus Intelligence Research does not anticipate any further action from OPEC+ at its next meeting in June, Chet Sharma, a Senior Associate at the company, revealed to Rigzone.
“Given the most recent rounds of cuts from the OPEC+ group last month we see strong fundamental support for Brent to drift over $100 per barrel in the back half of the year and don’t anticipate any further action from OPEC+ in June,” Sharma said.
“Despite our relatively bearish expectations for global oil demand growth in 2023 we see little prospect for global supply growth to backfill the void left by the largger producer and the rest of OPEC+ while meeting new incremental demand,” Sharma added.
“We expect global crude inventories to draw down significantly particularly in the second half of the year,” the Enverus Intelligence Research representative went on to state.
When asked what he thought was now likely to happen at the next OPEC+ meeting, Stephen Brennock, an oil analyst at PVM Oil Associates, told Rigzone he suspected the meeting will be a “non-event”.
“The group’s recent decision to trim output further has effectively closed the door on any additional action at the June meeting,” he said.
Voluntary Cuts
The latest Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee (JMMC) meeting on April 3 noted a voluntary production adjustment by Saudi Arabia, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, Oman, and Gabon starting in May until the end of 2023, a statement posted on OPEC’s website earlier this month highlighted.
This will be in addition to the production adjustments decided at the 33rd OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting and in addition to the announced voluntary adjustment by the the largger producer of 500,000 barrels per day until the end of 2023, the statement noted.
“Accordingly, this will bring the total additional voluntary production adjustments by the above-mentioned countries to 1.66 million barrels per day,” the statement said.
“The meeting noted that this is a precautionary measure aimed at supporting the stability of the oil market,” it added.
At the 33rd OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting, which was held in October 2022, OPEC+ decided to adjust its overall production down by two million barrels per day from the August 2022 required production levels, starting in November 2022, a separate statement posted on OPEC’s site highlighted.
OPEC+ Meeting
At its previous OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting, which was held on December 4, 2022, OPEC+ decided to hold the next OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting on June 4, according to a statement posted on OPEC’s site in December last year.
The statement posted on OPEC’s site earlier this month noted that the next meeting of the JMMC is scheduled for June 4.
